RecurX vs Seal Subscriptions: An Honest Seal Alternative Comparison
Seal Subscriptions is the budget favourite in merchant communities: a free plan, low flat prices and no percentage of sales. RecurX shares the no-transaction-fee model but costs more at the bottom end and packs more retention tooling into its base plan. Here is how to tell which fits your store.

Both apps charge 0% transaction fees. Seal is cheaper for small programs (free to 50 subscriptions, $24.95 for 500) and offers a 30-day trial, Shopify POS and 3,111 reviews. RecurX is $29 for up to 1,000 subscribers or $49 unlimited, with cancel flows, win-back, loyalty, build-a-box and cohort analytics on both plans.
The short answer: who each app is best for
- Choose Seal if you run a simple subscribe-and-save or prepaid program with a few hundred subscribers or fewer, you want the lowest possible price, you sell through Shopify POS, or you need fixed delivery schedules for a magazine-style product.
- Choose RecurX if you want cancel flows with save offers, win-back campaigns, loyalty, build-a-box and cohort analytics in one plan, or you have between 500 and 1,000 subscribers and want one flat $29 price.

How to move from Seal to RecurX
RecurX does not have a dedicated Seal connector. You bring subscriptions over with a CSV file exported from Seal:
- Set up RecurX first. Install it (14-day free trial), recreate your plans and pick a widget design.
- Export your active subscriptions from Seal to a CSV with customer email, Shopify variant ID, quantity, billing interval (unit and count) and next billing date for each one. Names, price and currency are optional columns.
- Pause billing in Seal for the subscriptions you are moving, so nobody is charged by both apps.
- Import the file. In RecurX go to Migrate and choose CSV. RecurX creates a new Shopify subscription contract for each row, with the customer, products, quantity, price, billing frequency and next billing date. An import can be rolled back.
- Get a payment method on every subscription. Imported contracts have no card attached. A customer who already has a card saved in Shopify can choose it in the RecurX customer portal; anyone else enters a card again. Tell subscribers before their next billing date.
- Check the first renewals. Contracts bill on their next billing date. Watch the first ones go through before you rely on the new setup.
- Switch the storefront. Move your product widget and portal links to RecurX, and uninstall Seal once the first renewals have billed.
What does not move: saved cards, past billing attempts and data that only your previous app uses. Your Shopify order history stays where it is.
Card details: saved cards do not carry over automatically. Customers pick a card already saved in Shopify in the customer portal, or enter a card again. To move saved payment methods from your old processor, contact Shopify Support; Shopify says this needs Shopify Plus or Enterprise (Shopify Help Center). You can book a free migration call with RecurX, and the full walkthrough is in the subscription migration guide.

Câu hỏi thường gặp
Is Seal Subscriptions or RecurX cheaper?
Up to 500 subscriptions Seal is cheaper: free to 50, then $5.95, $9.95 and $24.95 (as of 27 September 2026). RecurX is $29 for up to 1,000 subscribers and $49 unlimited. Past 500 subscriptions, compare Seal’s larger plans on its listing.
Does Seal Subscriptions charge transaction fees?
No. Seal’s listing shows a 0% transaction fee on every plan, and RecurX charges none either, so fees are not a difference between these two apps.
Can I move my Seal subscriptions to RecurX?
Yes, with a CSV export from Seal. RecurX has no direct Seal connector. It needs customer email, Shopify variant ID, quantity, billing interval and next billing date for each subscription, and creates a new Shopify subscription contract for each row. Pause billing in Seal first so nobody is charged twice. An import can be rolled back.
Will my subscribers have to re-enter their card details?
Plan for it. RecurX creates new subscription contracts rather than taking over Seal’s, and saved cards do not carry over automatically. A customer who already has a card saved in Shopify can choose it in the RecurX customer portal; anyone else enters a card again. To move saved cards from your old processor, contact Shopify Support; Shopify says this needs Shopify Plus or Enterprise.
Does RecurX have a free plan like Seal?
No. RecurX has Basic at $29/month and Pro at $49/month, each with a 14-day free trial and no transaction fee. For a program under 50 subscriptions, Seal’s free plan will cost less.
