RecurX vs Skio: An Honest Skio Alternative Comparison
Skio is a modern subscription app popular with fast-growing DTC brands, known for passwordless login and a polished customer portal. Since April 2026 it has been part of Recharge. RecurX is a newer, independent app with a flat monthly price and no transaction fee. Here is the side-by-side.

Skio has one listed plan, Scale, at $599/month ($499 billed annually) plus 1% + 20¢ per subscription order, with 241 reviews and an included migration. RecurX is $29 or $49 a month with no transaction fee. Skio suits brands that want its lifecycle journeys and integrations and can absorb the cost; RecurX suits stores that want the core stack for far less.
The short answer: who each app is best for
- Choose Skio if you are a scaling DTC brand that wants passwordless login and quick actions, automated lifecycle journeys, a long integration list (Postscript, Triple Whale, Yotpo, Zendesk, Northbeam and more) and a migration handled for you, and the cost is small next to your subscription revenue.
- Choose RecurX if you want subscriptions, a customer portal, payment recovery, cancel flows and loyalty for $29 or $49 a month with no transaction fee, or you prefer an app that is not owned by another subscription vendor.
Skio is now a Recharge company
In April 2026 Recharge acquired Skio (TechCrunch), and its App Store listing now reads “Skio, a Recharge Company.” No change to Skio’s pricing had been announced when we checked. If independence matters to you, it is a fact worth weighing; our take is in Recharge acquired Skio — what merchants should do.

What it costs at your volume
Take a store billing $20,000 a month in subscription orders at a $40 average order — 500 orders and about 500 active subscribers:
| Plan | Base | Fees on $20k / 500 orders | Monthly total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Skio Scale (monthly) | $599 | 1% = $200 + 20¢ × 500 = $100 | $899 |
| Skio Scale (annual) | $499 | $300 | $799 |
| RecurX Basic | $29 | $0 | $29 |
| RecurX Pro | $49 | $0 | $49 |
App costs only; Shopify’s payment processing applies either way. Try your own volume in the transaction-fee calculator.

How to move from Skio to RecurX
RecurX does not have a dedicated Skio connector. You bring subscriptions over with a CSV file exported from Skio:
- Set up RecurX first. Install it (14-day free trial), recreate your plans and pick a widget design.
- Export your active subscriptions from Skio to a CSV with customer email, Shopify variant ID, quantity, billing interval (unit and count) and next billing date for each one. Names, price and currency are optional columns.
- Pause billing in Skio for the subscriptions you are moving, so nobody is charged by both apps.
- Import the file. In RecurX go to Migrate and choose CSV. RecurX creates a new Shopify subscription contract for each row, with the customer, products, quantity, price, billing frequency and next billing date. An import can be rolled back.
- Get a payment method on every subscription. Imported contracts have no card attached. A customer who already has a card saved in Shopify can choose it in the RecurX customer portal; anyone else enters a card again. Tell subscribers before their next billing date.
- Check the first renewals. Contracts bill on their next billing date. Watch the first ones go through before you rely on the new setup.
- Switch the storefront. Move your product widget and portal links to RecurX, and uninstall Skio once the first renewals have billed.
What does not move: saved cards, past billing attempts and data that only your previous app uses. Your Shopify order history stays where it is.
Card details: saved cards do not carry over automatically. Customers pick a card already saved in Shopify in the customer portal, or enter a card again. To move saved payment methods from your old processor, contact Shopify Support; Shopify says this needs Shopify Plus or Enterprise (Shopify Help Center). You can book a free migration call with RecurX, and the full walkthrough is in the subscription migration guide.

Câu hỏi thường gặp
Is RecurX a good Skio alternative?
For stores that want the core subscription stack without Skio’s pricing, yes: RecurX is $29 or $49 a month with no transaction fee and includes a customer portal, payment recovery, cancel flows and loyalty. Skio is the stronger pick if you want its passwordless experience, lifecycle journeys, long integration list and a migration done for you.
How much does Skio cost?
As of 27 September 2026, Skio lists its Scale plan at $599/month, or $499/month billed annually, plus 1% + 20¢ per order involving a subscription, with custom Enterprise pricing. Check Skio’s pricing page for current rates.
Who owns Skio?
Recharge. Recharge acquired Skio in April 2026, and the App Store listing now reads “Skio, a Recharge Company.”
Can I move my Skio subscriptions to RecurX?
Yes, with a CSV export from Skio. RecurX has no direct Skio connector. It needs customer email, Shopify variant ID, quantity, billing interval and next billing date for each subscription, and creates a new Shopify subscription contract for each row. Pause billing in Skio first so nobody is charged twice. An import can be rolled back.
Will my subscribers have to re-enter their card details?
Plan for it. RecurX creates new subscription contracts rather than taking over Skio’s, and saved cards do not carry over automatically. A customer who already has a card saved in Shopify can choose it in the RecurX customer portal; anyone else enters a card again. To move saved cards from your old processor, contact Shopify Support; Shopify says this needs Shopify Plus or Enterprise.
Does RecurX have passwordless login like Skio?
RecurX’s customer portal is on both plans, and portal magic links that let subscribers in without a password are on Pro ($49/month).
