Shopify Subscription App Transaction Fee Calculator
Most subscription apps take a cut of every order on top of their monthly price — Recharge charges 1.25–1.34% plus $0.19 per order, Skio 1% plus $0.20 (verified on their pricing pages, August 2026). Enter your order volume and AOV to see what that cut costs per year.
Transaction fees compound with growth: at 300 subscription orders/month with a $45 AOV, Recharge Plus’s 1.34% + $0.19/order comes to roughly $2,900/year in fees alone — before the $499/mo platform fee. RecurX charges no transaction fees on any plan, so the calculator’s RecurX row is always $0.
| Plan | Fee structure | Fees / month | Fees / year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Recharge Standard | 1.25% + $0.19/order | $226 | $2,709 |
| Recharge Plus | 1.34% + $0.19/order | $238 | $2,855 |
| Skio Scale | 1.00% + $0.20/order | $195 | $2,340 |
| RecurX (any plan) | No transaction fees | $0 | $0 |
On 300 subscription orders/month at $45 AOV, transaction fees alone cost up to $2,855 per year — revenue RecurX leaves in your store.
Fee rates verified on getrecharge.com/pricing and skio.com/pricing (August 2026). Base monthly platform fees (Recharge Standard $99, Recharge Plus $499, Skio Scale $599, RecurX from $0) are excluded from the fee math above — this compares only the per-order cut. Rates change; always confirm on each vendor’s pricing page.
How the fee calculator works
Every plan below is modeled as: monthly fees = (orders × AOV × percentage) + (orders × per-order fee). The comparison isolates the transaction-fee component; base monthly platform prices are listed in the footnote so the math stays honest — every app, including RecurX, has a monthly price. What differs is whether the app also taxes each order.
- Recharge Standard: 1.25% + $0.19 per order (plus $99/mo base)
- Recharge Plus: 1.34% + $0.19 per order (plus $499/mo base)
- Skio Scale: 1% + $0.20 per order (plus $599/mo base)
- RecurX: no percentage, no per-order fee, on any plan
Why per-order fees matter more as you grow
A percentage fee is a tax on growth: double your subscribers and your tooling cost doubles with them. A flat monthly price does the opposite — the more recurring revenue you add, the smaller your tooling cost is as a share of it. That difference is why merchants cite the 2024 Recharge repricing as the most common trigger for switching apps, and why zero transaction fees is the core of RecurX’s pricing.
Fees are only part of total cost
When you compare apps, look at the whole stack: base price, transaction fees, and which features cost extra. Payment recovery (dunning), loyalty, and bundles are add-ons or higher tiers in some apps — RecurX includes them. See the full Recharge comparison and Skio comparison for feature-by-feature tables.
Frequently asked questions
Do all Shopify subscription apps charge transaction fees?
No. Fee structures vary by app and plan. Recharge and Skio publish percentage-plus-per-order fees on their pricing pages (verified August 2026); RecurX charges none on any plan. Always confirm current rates on each vendor’s pricing page before deciding.
Are these fees on top of Shopify’s own payment processing?
Yes. App transaction fees are charged by the subscription app and are separate from Shopify’s payment processing rates, which every store pays regardless of app.
What does RecurX cost?
RecurX has a free-forever tier and flat monthly plans with zero transaction fees on all of them — see the pricing page. The calculator’s RecurX row is $0 because it compares only transaction fees.
How accurate are the competitor rates?
The Recharge (1.25%/1.34% + $0.19) and Skio (1% + $0.20) rates were read directly from getrecharge.com/pricing and skio.com/pricing in August 2026. Vendors change pricing; treat the output as an estimate and verify current rates.
